What Happened at Hexacon
Hexacon is an offensive security conference held in Paris. On October 16, 2026, Calif researchers jailbroke an iPhone 18 Pro running iOS 27.0.1 on stage. They then rebooted it. After the user unlocked it with the normal passcode, the jailbreak came back by itself and the researchers opened a root SSH session, with no computer connected.
That reboot persistence is what untethered means. Modern public jailbreaks like Dopamine are semi-untethered: after a reboot you have to open an app and run the jailbreak again. A persistent root chain on the newest iPhone and firmware is very rare.
Calif has not named the bugs. Its newsletter lists four demos, including Signal and iMessage exploits, and says all of them will be published "in due time". Apple has not commented publicly.
iOS 27.0.1 Jailbreak Release Date
No release date has been announced. Researchers who show a chain like this normally report it to Apple and publish details after a fix ships. The likely order is:
- Apple patches the bugs in an iOS update
- Calif publishes a technical write-up
- Jailbreak developers may build a usable tool for devices still on unpatched firmware
This is the usual pattern, not something Calif has confirmed. A public tool is not guaranteed.
What You Should Do Now
- On iOS 27.0.1 or lower: stay there. Turn off Settings → General → Software Update → Automatic Updates.
- Buying a new iPhone: check its iOS version before setting it up and skip the update prompt.
- Already on a newer version: you cannot downgrade once Apple stops signing 27.0.1.
- Care more about security? Update normally. An unreleased root chain is a risk until Apple patches it.
Fake iOS 27.0.1 Jailbreak Downloads
Scam sites will use this news to push fake "iOS 27.0.1 untethered jailbreak" downloads, survey walls, paid installers, and configuration profiles. None of them are real. When the jailbreak comes out, it will be announced by Calif or a known developer on GitHub and r/jailbreak, and it will be free.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the iOS 27.0.1 untethered jailbreak released?
No. It was demonstrated live by Calif at Hexacon on October 16, 2026, but no tool or exploit code has been published. Reddit posts calling it a release are wrong. Calif says it will publish "in due time" and has given no date.
Can I download the iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak?
No. There is no legitimate download. Any website, YouTube video, or app offering an iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak download right now is a scam.
Does the iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak work on iPhone 17 or iPhone 16?
Unknown. Only the iPhone 18 Pro was shown. Other devices on iOS 27.0.1 may be affected, but nothing has been confirmed.
Should I stay on iOS 27.0.1?
Yes, if you want to jailbreak. Turn off Automatic Updates and avoid iOS 27.1 or later until it is clear which versions are affected. Apple stops signing older iOS versions soon after an update, so you cannot downgrade later.
Who made the iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak?
Calif, a security research firm. Calif has used AI models, including Anthropic's Claude, in earlier exploit research. Reports say AI helped with this chain too, but Calif has not said how much.
